Laura Elliot

Court mediator with knowledge of construction disputes

Laura Elliott comes to mediation and conflict resolution via the private and commercial business worlds. She has worked in the communications industry for more than two decades, as an investigative journalist and then as a senior executive for Fleishmann-Hillard, Inc., one of the world’s leading strategic communications firms. Her clients range from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies including Sun Microsystems, StorageTek, IBM, AT&T and Sybase, Inc. In addition to persuasive writing and verbal communications, she honed her skills in negotiation, relationship building and active listening while working in environments as small as two parties and as large as a multitude of opposing interests.

Laura is able to communicate complex subjects effectively to a wide range of audiences. Skilled at drawing vital information from parties, she uses investigative expertise aimed at uncovering underlying interests to help clear impasses. She makes connections without prejudice or bias, and can facilitate constructive conversation among conflicting parties, working toward effective solutions that parties are happy with and can agree and commit to.

Laura currently volunteers for Jefferson County Mediation Services (JCMS), providing mediation services in County Court; she also works on private cases involving family/marital and parenting disputes, construction, contract, neighbor, and dog disputes. Her role at JCMS also includes mentoring students in the University of Denver’s Conflict Resolution program.

Laura holds a BS in Journalism and Mass Communications from the University of Colorado, and received a Certificate in Alternative Dispute Resolution from the Institute of Advanced Dispute Resolution in 2010.

Laura enjoys the Colorado outdoors with her husband, two children and dog, Leo, whenever she can.
